Programs for Veterans

We provide outdoor recreational and social activities for veterans coping with military-related physical, cognitive, and emotional difficulties. Our goal is to get veterans out of the home and participating in activities that promote camaraderie, self-esteem, and a connection to the outdoors. All WAS Veterans Programs are available 100% on scholarship thanks to the generous support of our donors.

Skiing/Snowboarding

The ski and snowboard program aims to progress students to a level of skiing to ride independently with family or friends. Adaptive equipment is available to use and ski and snowboard programs take place at Snowbird, Sundance, Alta, and other resorts upon request (some restrictions apply).

Cycling

Group rides and private sessions take place throughout the week on the paved trails in Salt Lake City, Murray, American Fork, and Provo. A variety of two-wheeled bicycles, three-wheeled recumbents, and handcycles are available for use.

Mountain Biking

The growing mileage of trails accessible for adaptive mountain bikes along the Wasatch Front makes this area perfect for our growing program. Rides will take place at various trailheads, including WAS-adopted Little Valley Trailhead in Draper.

Snowshoeing

A great way to experience the mountains in the winter, snowshoeing is a favorite for groups and families to enjoy together. Snowshoes attach to hiking or snow boots, allowing the student to walk on either groomed trails or off-trail in the powder Utah is known for.
