What do WAS and moustaches have in common? Each year, the Salty Saints Social Club and Facial Hair Society puts on a beard and moustache competition at Snowbird’s Oktoberfest which benefits Wasatch Adaptive Sports. The Salty Saints Social Club and Facial Hair Society – a long name to say it all. Founded in 2013, the Salty Saints are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are dedicated to creating a positive social atmosphere for facial hair enthusiasts by promoting camaraderie, charity and the bringing together of like-minded individuals. Our club raises money throughout the year with fundraising projects, and at the yearly Snowbird Oktoberfest Beard and Moustache Competition to donate to Wasatch Adaptive Sports.

Six years ago, near the end of the Oktoberfest season the Salty Saints approached Snowbird about presenting a family friendly charity beard and moustache competition with about 11 different categories. Something that would need a stage, and take about 2 hours. We explained it as a bit like a cross between a dog show and a beauty pageant. As competitive bearding has its roots in Germany, we thought it would be a perfect match with the yearly fest of beer and bratwurst. We are grateful to Snowbird for suggesting Wasatch Adaptive Sports as our charity to donate to because we love Utah outdoors and think everyone deserves the chance to enjoy what this great state has to offer. That first year was so much fun for us, and somewhat of a spectacle for the other Oktoberfest guests that Snowbird decided to have us back. We are excited and thankful to be celebrating our fifth year of competition on August 18th.

The Salty Saints are proud members of the North American Competitive Beard and Moustache Association and the World Beard and Moustache Association. Being part of these prestigious organizations helps draw facial hair enthusiast from around the country to our Snowbird competition, including world champions. With that said, even if this is your first time, there is a category for everyone, man, woman or child. From the short business beard to the long wizard beard and every style in between. You can even build a fantasy or naturalistic craft beard for our 2 Whiskerina categories, or Kid’s Parade.
