Veterans Programs

The mission of the Wasatch Adaptive Sports Veterans Program is to provide outdoor recreational and social activities for veterans coping with military-related physical, cognitive, and emotional difficulties. Our goal is to get veterans out of the home and participating in activities that promote camaraderie, self-esteem, and a connection to the outdoors. All WAS Veterans Programs are available 100% on scholarship thanks to the generous support of our donors. This program is made possible thanks to a partnership with the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affiairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Skiing/Snowboarding

The ski and snowboard program aims to progress students to a level of skiing and riding independently with family or friends. Adaptive equipment includes the bi-ski, snow slider, Kart Ski, monoski, and outriggers that maximize success and learning. Most instructors are PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) or AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) certified. WAS ski and snowboard programs take place at Snowbird, Sundance, Alta, and other resorts upon request (some restrictions apply).

Cycling

A variety of two-wheeled bicycles, three-wheeled recumbents, and handcycles comprise the fleet of bikes that make this program a great option for veterans of all abilities. Group rides and private sessions take place throughout the week on the paved trails in Salt Lake City, Murray, and Provo.

Mountain Biking

Based in Park City, our mountain bike program emphasizes safety and technique, while promoting independence and confidence. The range of wide double track trails to intermediate singletrack trails in Park city make this area a great for two-wheeled mountain bikes and handcycles alike. *Available for qualifying groups. Please contact us for more information.

Please contact us about other programming for veterans including hiking, snowshoeing, and more.

Advanced reservations are required for all winter and summer activities and are based on availability.
