Pedal With Purpose: How Courtney Reclaimed Her Identity on the Trail
“When I pedal, I get to choose my challenges and even create my challenges! I pedal to feel control in my life and to choose my barriers to overcome.” – Courtney
Before her spinal cord injury, WAS Program Office Admin and Instructor Courtney spent countless hours riding the trails in Draper and Corner Canyon, with Vertigo being her absolute favorite.
One of her best mountain biking memories happened right here at one of WAS’s first adaptive mountain bike programs. For the first time since her injury, Courtney got into a bike that truly matched her body and her riding style. She was able to tackle Vertigo once again, flying down the familiar terrain she knows by heart and finally feeling that rush of speed. For Courtney, cycling is more than just a sport, it is a way to express herself and reclaim her identity.
We are incredibly lucky to have Courtney on our team!
If you’ve ever noticed anyone rocking bright pink stickers or custom chainring earrings around the community, those are Courtney’s creations! Next time you see her, make sure to ask her about them.
